Seagate delivers enterprise hard drive with 2 TB

The 3.5-inch model Constellation ES comes with either a 6-GBit/s-SAS- or 3-GBit/s-SATA-Interface. It works with 7200 U / min and 16 MB cache. The price is around 300 euros.

Seagate has started about a year after the initial announcement with the delivery of the fourth generation of its enterprise hard drive Constellation ES. The 3.5-inch drive for external storage architectures (nearline storage) is now available in capacities of 500, 1000 and 2000 GB.

The Constellation ES works with 7200 U. / min and 16 MB cache. At the interface between a customer can choose one or 3-GBit/s-SATA- 6-GBit/s-SAS-Interface.

With the latter, according to the manufacturer a data transfer rate of 150 Mbytes / sec. The average seek time to be reading below 8.5 milliseconds, and the letter below 9.5 milliseconds. The mean latency is given as 4.16 milliseconds, the mean time between failures (Mean Time Between Failures, MTBF) of 1.2 million hours.

The drive supports Seagate's Choice Power technology, which will reduce power consumption at light loads by up to 35 percent. In operation, requires the Constellation ES average 12.2 watts at idle it is satisfied with 8 watts.

The SAS model with 2 TB of memory lists online stores for around 300 euros. The SATA version of the same size costs about 270 Euro.

Besides offering Seagate and Hitachi and Western Digital enterprise hard drives with up to 2 terabytes of capacity. However, the models RE4-GP and Ultra Star A7K2000 available exclusively with 3-GBit/s-SATA-Interface.
